3rd Annual "Back the Badge" Trail Run/Fun Walk Returns to Boerne, September 8th!
Are you familiar with the Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy? This 10-week course is designed to familiarize local citizens with how our Kendall County law enforcement agencies conduct business, as well as enhance the positive relationship between those agencies and the community. Topics covered in the course include patrol procedures, criminal investigation, jail operations, animal control, warrant service, and firearms. At the end of the Academy, graduates are invited to become members of the KCCLEA Alumni Association, where they work together to show support for local law enforcement agencies and assist with various fundraisers and events; local Blue Santa programs, “Refuse to Be A Victim” seminars, and crowd control for parades, to name a few.
The Alumni Association's primary fundraiser is the annual “Back the Badge” Trail 5K Run/1 Mile Fun Walk, which this year, is scheduled for September 8th. This is a timed event through iRun Texas and medals will be awarded for Overall and Masters Male and Female Finishers, by age category, and all participants will receive a Finisher's Medal as well. Everything kicks off with check-in at the Kendall County Fairgrounds then participants will make their way past Samuel V. Champion High School and over to the Cibolo Nature Center to finish the race with the sights and sounds of the center's beautiful nature trails, native birds, and the babbling Cibolo Creek.

“All funds raised through the race go directly to assist with range training or continuing education classes for Kendall County law enforcement officers when budgets run short”, says Kathryn Schmidt, Events Coordinator for the organization. “It really is a lot of fun and with Boerne’s quaint historic district, restaurants, and breweries available for exploring afterward, you really couldn’t ask for a better location!”
Regular registration is open through August 31st and late registration is available from September 1st through the 6th. Kids twelve and under are free. Law enforcement officers are invited to participate, free of charge (by providing their badge number at registration), and their family members can join them for half price. You’ll find more details and the REGISTRATION FORM HERE.
