It's a Fantastic Fall for Art in Boerne: 5 Events Not to Miss (& They Start THIS WEEK!)
Well, it’s officially fall and with the fall (and that much-craved cooler weather) comes a whole new season to enjoy the arts in Boerne...one of my favorite things about our little town! Right out of the gate, we’ve got FIVE fantastic events to be experienced. Take a look:
Sept 27th-28th - En Plein Air Paint-Out at The AgriCultural (formerly known as The Agricultural Heritage Museum), 102 City Park Road: Talented Texas artists will be posted around Boerne from 8:00am-4:00pm each day of this FREE two-day event. Pick up your map at The Agricultural, then enjoy your self-led tour of the city to find the artists painting outdoors—En Plein Air—at locations such as the AgriCultural farm property, city parks, historic downtown buildings, the Cibolo Nature Center and Creek, and more! This event is sponsored by the Hill Country Council for the Arts (HCCA) and Boerne Professional Artists (BPA) and is the opening event to the inaugural “Art Along the Cibolo” art show and sale taking place on Sept 29th.
Sept 29th - Art Along the Cibolo: Sponsored by the HCCA and BPA, over thirty artists and artisans from San Antonio and South Texas will be displaying their work along the scenic Hill Country Mile trail system between Theissen Street and the Main Street bridge in Boerne. Enjoy visiting with the artists and watching as they provide demonstrations of their specialties. The show is FREE and open to the public from 10:00am-6:00pm. Also, be sure to wander over to Texas Treasures Fine Art to check out the art show they’re hosting in conjunction with Art Along the Cibolo! Coming in from out of town? You’ll find that 15% discounted lodging rates are available at Comfort Inn & Suites Texas Hill Country using code LArt and at the Hampton Inn & Suites Boerne.
Oct 6th - Boerne Book & Arts Fest, Main Plaza & The Dienger Trading Co.: An opportunity to celebrate books and the arts...with Boerne flair! This FREE event at Main Plaza and The Dienger Trading Co. will run from 10:00am-5:30pm and include six author panels, arts & crafts, book signings, artist demos and more. Singer, songwriter, and author, Kinky Friedman, will join in on the fun by providing live musical entertainment, readings, and book signings at the gazebo! Find the full author panel schedule HERE.
Oct 12th-13th - Hill Country Charity Art Show (HCCAS), Patrick Heath Public Library: A charity art show founded by three Boerne artists looking to give back to their community by donating part of its sales to a worthy cause. This year, more than twenty artists will come together for the HCCAS to raise funds for Vault Fostering Community, a local non-profit organization that provides assistance—and community—to Hill Country foster families. The show is FREE (though donations will be accepted for Vault) and will run from 2:00-7:00pm on Oct 12th and 10:00am-7:00pm on Oct 13th. Find more information and a list of participating artists HERE.
Oct 13th - Second Saturday Art Beat: Since 2007, when a cooperative effort was launched among gallery owners, Second Saturday Art Beat has drawn locals and tourists alike to explore the active Boerne art community and its historic Hill Country Mile. Additionally, a multitude of local shops and restaurants join Carriage House Gallery, Gallery 195 of Boerne, and Texas Treasures Fine Art from 4:00-8:00pm on the second Saturday of each month for the event. Wine and hors d'oeuvres are commonly served at each location and artists are on-site to showcase and discuss their works. Keep your eye out for those bright purple banners showing you the way!
That’s a busy start to fall in Boerne…and lots of opportunity for fun for the whole family. Be sure to take advantage of concurrent events such as Market Days, Oktoberfest, the Key to the Hills Rod Run, the Farmer’s Market at the Cibolo, Hot Rod Night at Soda Pop’s, and the Antique Tractor Pull to make a full day—or even a full weekend—out of your Boerne Art Adventure!
