Meet Boerne's "Best of the Best" Photographer, Jená Craig, RIGHT HERE!
It’s not every day you meet someone who tells you they regularly get to work with not just adorable babies, but also goats, bunnies, and yes, even Santa Claus. But Boerne photographer, Jená Craig, considers herself lucky to get to do just that.
Having grown up with a father who held a love for the art, Jená often found herself on the subject-side of his lens. So, it was only natural that she developed an interest as well. Jená first began experimenting with the camera in high school and by the time she and her husband found themselves leading a youth ministry pastoring junior high and high school students in Oklahoma, she was fine-tuning her new-found skills as a portrait photographer.
“It was about a year after returning to Texas from Oklahoma that I began to pursue photography seriously, as a career,” Jená explained through our email interview. “Now I am a Professional Photographers of America (PPA) Certified Professional Photographer (CPP); one of only two in the Boerne area.”
And since 2014 when she officially established her current studio, Jená Craig Photography, she’s been named “Best of the Best” by the readers of the Boerne Star two years in a row (2018 and 2019) and the people of Google-Reviewer-Land have also spoken—with dozens of reviews and a near-perfect 4.9-star rating. For Jená, those results stem from only one thing: truly digging what she does.
“I thoroughly enjoy interacting with people and knowing that I can use my talents to produce personalized portrait products that can be a blessing to them for generations to come. And, of course, I absolutely love working with the precious babies and children too!”
But obviously, talent is not to be dismissed as a factor in Jená’s success as well. Specializing in newborn and children's portraiture, but also offering portraits for expectant moms, families, high school seniors, and tweens, Jená has a knack for capturing both the candidness of real-life,
and the whimsical and surreal.
Not to mention those stunning, fine-art-style portraits, undoubtedly fit for a magazine.
And it’s all personalized, providing a boutique photography experience you just won’t find at a big chain studio.
“I always start with an in-person consultation with the client to discuss their needs and expectations. Then we plan the details of their session, right down to wardrobe and location, in order to ensure the most beautiful portraits possible. About a week after the session, the client returns to the studio to relax on the sofa as I guide them through an enjoyable, no-pressure selection process. The whole experience is designed to be enjoyable for you; and no two sessions will be exactly the same.”
Jená’s clients have a multitude of formats in which to enjoy their portraits, including traditional framed or metal prints, canvases, albums, brag books, and entire wall collections that are—once again—personalized to fit your space.
“As a portrait photographer in today's digital world, it is heartbreaking to me that so many people have lost the understanding of the value and importance of the printed portrait. They opt, instead, for seldom-seen digital files on their computers and smart phones…and so many photographers today encourage this! I've chosen to provide my clients with heirloom quality wall portraits, hard-bound albums, and other physical portrait products that are not only seen and enjoyed daily in their homes, but will be seen and enjoyed by their children when they’re grown…and their children…and even their children. Where did you first see Great-Grandma’s picture as a child? In a frame—on the wall or on a mantel, right? It’s history. And it’s my job to help you preserve it.”
And this fall, YOU have several opportunities to have your portraits created by Jená at discounted rates and to score free goodies such as complimentary Christmas cards (in celebration of October’s Family Portrait Month), "All Boxed Up" limited edition in-studio sessions, and private portrait sessions with Santa Nov. 2nd and 9th!
So be sure to keep your eye on Jená Craig Photography’s Facebook and Instagram pages for future specials and announcements, look for her images on the cover of Life @ The Dominion and Hill Country Backpack Connection magazines, and even in the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center’s annual calendar…my sweet friend is seemingly everywhere in this city of ours, where she lives with Troy, her husband of thirty-two years.
“It’s hard to believe we've been in Boerne for seventeen of those years already; we just love its small-town feel, friendliness, and beauty. Our kids are grown—our daughter, Kara, is an ICU nurse in Oklahoma City and our son, T.A., lives in San Antonio with his wife, Lindsey. Boerne is a great place for them to come home to. We wouldn’t have it any other way!”
