Boerne Wellness Mini-Post: FREE First Friday Yoga at the Library
So, yesterday was the first Friday in January and that means it was FREE “First Friday Yoga” day at the Patrick Heath Public Library. This is a monthly, one-hour yoga class that is hosted by the lovely Rachel of The Yoga House (if you’re not following her on Instagram, you should be!), and runs from 6:30-7:30pm. As mentioned, the class is FREE but donations are accepted and appreciated. Everybody say "Hi" to Rachel:
Last night, I grabbed one of my best mom-friends and took her along with me even though we both admitted that we’re pretty horrible at yoga (thanks, V, for always being up for anything!). But you know what? It was totally okay.
This class is described on Rachel’s website as an “all levels, gentle yet non-judgmental yoga flow [that] allows you to play at your own pace without any pressure to perform, look a certain way or ‘get’ any pose”. And that’s exactly what it was! There were men and women of all ages and even one child, I’d say about 10 years old. I saw folks of all different skill levels, though honestly, I wasn’t paying too much attention to anyone else...
That’s sort of the beauty of yoga, right? You tend to get lost in your own body, listening to your own breaths, your own heartbeat, your own rhythm. You’re paying attention to what parts of your body seem to need just a little bit more of a stretch, what parts seem to be getting along just fine, and towards the end there when you’re in your own relaxation pose with your palms turned upward, you’re not really thinking of (or paying attention to) much of anything at all. This is why I’ve always loved yoga (even if I’m not particularly great at it). This is why I always find myself wondering why I don’t take the time to practice it more often.
If you’re even slightly curious about what yoga is all about, you have absolutely nothing to lose by trying First Friday Yoga with Rachel at the library. Make it a date night or a mom’s night out with the girls. Or just go by yourself (how glorious does that sound?). And remember that The Yoga House is there for you when you (inevitably) crave more!
